		<description><![CDATA[Are you sure Linux supports the device? First &lt;code&gt;umount&lt;/code&gt; the device, then run &lt;code&gt;dmesg &#124; tail -20&lt;/code&gt;. In the &lt;code&gt;dmesg&lt;/code&gt; output you may see some sort of indication that there&#039;s a new device, and then you&#039;ll need to google for the module to load via &lt;code&gt;modprobe&lt;/code&gt; if it&#039;s supported. I would expect the USB ID to change, but the Linux USB ModeSwitch site (see above) will have better info.]]></description>

Can you please describe the &quot;mount/umount&quot; dance a little more, as I would like to get a better feel for what you saw to begin with? I currently have a device that does not have usb_modeswitch support, and to which I cannot easily add it, and I&#039;d like to be able to use the modem manually. 

I have mounted the &quot;CD-ROM&quot; at /mnt/cdrom and cansee the files, but nothing changes in lsusb when I umount /dev/sr0.
